2008 Literary Awards Open to Self-Publishers and Independent/Small Press Authors
Austin, TX (PRWEB) June 16, 2008 -- Many books printed by prominent publishing companies receive deserving attention, however, thousands self-published books or books printed by independent and small presses go unnoticed, but are equally deserving of such acclaim. The Reader Views Annual Literary Awards were founded to honor such authors, who have fulfilled their aspirations to write.
"The Reader Views Annual Literary Awards are important because they grant credibility to books that my not otherwise gain mainstream recognition and open doors for the authors as they further their careers," Reader Views Managing Editor Irene Watson said. Reader Views is a budding book review and publicity service website that has reviewed nearly 5,000 titles since its inception in 2005.
Along with the specialized awards, which include cash prizes or value packages from sponsors, general awards will be given in genre categories for both fiction and nonfiction works.
Reader Views reviewers will complete the initial judging and winners will be selected by a jury of judges. Each reviewer and judge is an expert in his or her field and an avid reader. Criteria for judging are content/originality, presentation/design, innovation, social relevance and production quality.
Reader Views offers honest book reviews and affordable publicity services for authors. The Reader Views website has won eight awards, for its outstanding layout, content, usefulness and user-friendly ease. Writing Children's Books: Take Chances To Get Published
In an editorial several years ago, I described a tree house in the backyard of a local restaurant. I wrote, "The entire structure has been pieced together from recycled lumber, much of which still bears the paint, logos or posters of the original walls from whence it came. The generous platform is ringed by a sturdy fence that includes branches of the tree itself, random two-by-fours, wooden signs, and even a pair of moose antlers. The 'house' is more of a lean-to, tall enough for kids (but not adults) to stand up inside, with a screened door and two screened windows positioned so occupants can easily spy on the diners below or out over the adjacent parking lot. A green padded bench that looks like it had once belonged in a diner adequately...
