New Novel "Pike Place" Named Award-Winning Finalist in National Best Books 2007 Awards - for the Chick Lit and Women's Literature Category
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 3, 2007 -- Pike Place, the new novel set in 1971 Seattle, was named Award-Winning Finalist in the National Best Books 2007 Awards. Winners and finalists traversed the publishing landscape: Simon & Schuster, Penguin-Putnam, HarperCollins, Random House, McGraw-Hill, Houghton Mifflin Co., John Wiley & Sons and hundreds of independent titles.
"I am thrilled to receive this prestigious award," said author Marilyn Howard Tschudi. "As a writer, you invest so much into a project, and then you wait in anticipation to see what people think." Pike Place was recognized in the key "Chick Lit/Women's Lit" category. Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of USABookNews.com, said this year's contest yielded an unprecedented number of entries. "The 2007 results represent a phenomenal mix of books from a wide array of publishers throughout the United States."
Pike Place (ISBN 978-0-6151-4455-9) was released on the 100th anniversary of Seattle's famous Pike Place Market. In a special arrangement with Washington libraries, Pike Place was made available to readers six weeks earlier. "I am a huge fan of libraries," said Marilyn, "and watching the library activity across the state of Washington has been very exciting. One library has a three-month waiting list. What a delight to know that people are enjoying the book and telling others about it!" Another trend has been the interest in the book by younger readers. "I'm getting a lot of great feedback from teenagers," said Marilyn. "For them, the 1970s is not a memory, but rather an interesting time in America. To me, it was my life; to them it's ancient history!"
Born and raised in Washington, Marilyn has also lived in Cleveland, São Paulo (Brazil), New York City and Raleigh - where she lives today with her husband and three children. Marilyn is a graduate of Barnard College and founder and president of Architexture Home Center, Inc., an award-winning home design and remodeling firm. Pike Place is Marilyn's debut novel. She is currently working on her next novel, Tavern on the Green.
