Wordsmiths Books in Decatur Showcases Atlanta Author, Darlene Ford Wofford, aka 'The Spirited Southerner'

Decatur, GA (PRWEB) November 16, 2007 -- Wordsmiths Books will showcase Atlanta's own Darlene Ford Wofford, aka 'The Spirited Southerner' 2-4:00 Sunday, November 18 at their historical location in downtown Decatur, Georgia. The author will be reading excerpts, discussing and signing 2nd edition copies of "Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember," her novel based on true events in Georgia.

"An Assignment to Remember" is the first of three novels in her "Edgewise" series, with "Seven Years 'Til Sunrise" scheduled for release in 2008. The term "edgewise" is used to describe the protagonist, whose mind has shut down following back-to-back traumatic events. Told through the eyes of the author's alter ego, the book is not as much about the events as it is an inspiring story of triumph over tragedy, recovering as a healing progression and unconditional love.

Available online and through bookstores across the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia and most of Europe, 2nd edition copies of the book were released October 15th. Sales for this new edition continue to mount as the holiday season approaches and books are on back-order through some distributors.

When asked the difference in the first and second editions of the book, the author replied, "The second edition has a redesigned, more colorful front and back covers. The front cover still features the woman's silhouette designed by our son, Cory. We just added a structure in the background that is pertinent to the story. I'm excited that the response to the new look has been so amazing! I suppose it's true what I've always heard, folks do tend to judge a book by its cover."

Jim Cox of the MidWest Book Review describes the novel as "An inspired tribute to the strength of the human spirit, and of working through a process of recovery to overcome the wounds life can inflict upon us without warning." To quote Page One Lit literary newsletter, "Wofford is a wonderful writer whose personality and charisma is vivid in every word and sentence in her new book, 'Edgewise: An Assignment to Remember.' This is the most honest, heart-inspiring book of the year. It is about emotions. It is about communication. It is about life." Denna Shelton, Producer of Twenty Gems®, sums it up rather nicely in her review, "Edgewise took me on an emotional journey of laughter, sorrow and hope."

Having opened its doors to the public in June of 2007, Wordsmiths Books may be considered a fairly 'new kid on the block' compared to other bookstores, but it is quickly becoming one of the area's most popular places in which to be and be seen. The store has already made quite a name for itself. The rapid success may well be attributed to their aggressive marketing plan and promotion strategy. Wordsmiths has become known for featuring authors and sponsoring events on a regular basis at their historical location at 141 East Trinity Place in downtown Decatur. Built in the 1930s Depression era as a work project and the original post office, the unique white marble exterior is a real eye-catcher that beckons passers-by to stop in and check out the place. From the pink marble floor entry to the ¾" wood plank floors throughout, the rock-solid building takes on a welcoming personality of its own, enticing those who care to browse. The 10,000+ book titles which Wordsmiths houses within those walls likens to delicious filling in a home-baked pie. Visit www.WordsmithsBooks.com .

If the name Darlene Wofford rings a bell it may be because every Saturday morning in 2006 from 10-11:00 a.m., she co-hosted an hour-long Atlanta radio talk-show called "Your Inner Voice," and has been interviewed recently on several Atlanta radio stations regarding her novel. She and Carl are both Atlanta natives, and along with sons Kenneth and Cory, have been Woodstock/ Acworth residents for over 35 years. She has been involved with the mortgage finance industry for 20 years, and since 2004 she has been a certified image consultant as president of "Imagize" -- pronounced "image-ize -- Consulting Services." She explains that she combined the words "image" and "energize" and it means "To Energize Your Image." The generous platform is ringed by a sturdy fence that includes branches of the tree itself, random two-by-fours, wooden signs, and even a pair of moose antlers. The 'house' is more of a lean-to, tall enough for kids (but not adults) to stand up inside, with a screened door and two screened windows positioned so occupants can easily spy on the diners below or out over the adjacent parking lot.
